Undergraduate students who self-identify as women and are interested in learning more about investments and asset management and will have completed their second year of undergraduate studies by May 2025 from any Canadian university. Students must also be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
Yes. We are looking for both AEO and non-AEO students with broad representation from faculties across Western. This year we are also accepting a select number of students from all other Canadian universities.
The WAM program is tuition-free and subsidized by our corporate sponsors who support our mission. We also provide course materials, selected meals, accommodations during the month of May, networking event food and beverages, and program-related travel costs. You just need to provide your own accommodation during the internship.
The deadline for Round 1 applications is 11:59 p.m. on November 18, 2024. For Round 2, applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
The initial phase of the application process requires you to submit your university transcripts and a resumé detailing all employment and extracurricular activities. The second step involves providing two references—one academic and one personal—along with two essays, and a video recording of up to 60 seconds. In your video, introduce yourself and explain your interest in asset management and your reasons for applying to the WAM program. Please ensure that your presentation is professional; address the camera directly and refrain from reading from notes.
Candidates who advance to the final stage will participate in a brief virtual interview with the WAM selection committee.
An academic reference should come from a current or former university instructor. A personal reference should come from anyone who isn’t related to you who can speak to your character, such as a former employer, mentor, or coach.
Applicants from Round 1 will receive their admissions decisions 2 to 3 weeks following the November 18, 2024, deadline.
Applicants from Round 2 can expect to hear their admissions decisions within 2 to 3 weeks after the January 6, 2025, deadline.
The pre-program weekend is scheduled for March 22-23, 2025. This session will be held in person, with a virtual participation option available for students not from Western University. While all students are encouraged to attend in person, please note that travel and accommodation expenses will be the responsibility of each attendee.
The main program will be hosted at Ivey Business School from May 1 to May 30, 2025. Participants are expected to move into the residence on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, which will be followed by a welcome session and dinner.
The internships are in a variety of areas in asset management including banks, pension boards, hedge funds etc.
Paid internships will occur between June 2 and August 22, 2025*, in select cities throughout Canada, with the majority in Toronto. Internships are currently available in Victoria, BC, Toronto, ON and Montreal, QC with new locations being added each year.
*internships will be 10 - 12 weeks in length and determined by the individual sponsor
Prior to the start of the program, the WAM program team will assign the internships based on best fit for both participants and corporate sponsors. Both students and sponsors are required to fill out a survey to help determine best fit.
You are responsible for accommodations during the internships. Resources will be made available to help find suitable accommodations.
Students in previous cohorts have come from many different programs of study including but not limited to, business, finance, commerce, international relations, computer science, chemical engineering, health science, medical science, philosophy, psychology, media information technology and geography.
Transcripts uploaded as part of the application do not need to be official transcripts. Once accepted into the program you will be asked to provide an official transcript.
