The dominant factors driving social sustainability performance of global supply chain: An exploratory study using machine learning approach
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to explore the possible factors that dominantly driving the producer’s social sustainability performance in the global supply chain. An embedded case study at sustainability organization leverage large dataset of independent audit. An exploratory data mining analysis conducted to explore dominant factors using decision tree ensemble on random forest with supervised machine learning approach. The case use three unit of analysis on producer’s linked with buyer’s business model; Business-to-Business (B2B), Business-to-Consumer (B2C) and both types.
The study finds seven driving factors are dominantly influenced producer’s social sustainability supply chain performance with high prediction accuracy of 75%. These factors are legal minimum wage to living cost rate; women in workers proportion; number of workers; average turnover of buyers; turnover of producers; management to workers proportion; and remuneration to living cost rate. Within these dominant factors there are four identifiable forces of labor-economics, gender, business-structure & buyer's economics. These dominant factors are consistently present for different type of buyers business model with difference in the ranking of each dominant factors.
Biography
Anis is a doctoral candidate in business administration from Ecole des Ponts Business School in France. Prior joining the DBA program, he is master graduate in IT Architecture from Antwerp Management School and bachelor graduate in economic from University of Indonesia. Closing the gap between research & practice through data-driven empirical study is his main interest. He believe by leveraging the newest technology in big data & artificial intelligence, we will better understand the complexity of most challenging topic in human history, sustainability.
Anis is data management professional in the area of business intelligence & advanced analytics for almost 20 years and has been working with companies such as Coca-Cola, Levi’s, 3M and other. He currently working at Foreign Trade Association in Belgium as Business Intelligence Manager.
