As a multifaceted individual with a passion for technology, business, and social impact, I strive to combine my skills and interests to drive positive change. With a strong academic foundation in computer science and business, complemented by diverse work experiences, I am well-equipped to tackle complex challenges and contribute to a more sustainable future. As a leader and voice for change in the local community with privilege and power (president of the London Chess Club and Ivey Degrowth Club), I am committed to using my position for good. The Earth needs our help, and I’m honoured to do my part.

What is your personal definition of sustainability?

Sustainability, to me, is the pursuit of meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is a holistic approach that considers the interdependence of environmental, social, and economic factors, striving to create a balanced and thriving ecosystem for all stakeholders, including people, planet, and profit. It is a commitment to steady-state margins and economies. Sustainability is an understanding of the pillaging of Mother Nature and stark optimism about flicking the needle enough times to create the change the world needs.

What role do you see sustainability playing in your professional career?

I envision sustainability playing a pivotal role in my professional career. I aim to integrate sustainable practices and principles into every aspect of my work. Whether it's through developing innovative technologies that promote resource efficiency, implementing sustainable business strategies, or leveraging my skills to support social enterprises, I will contribute to a more sustainable world. I know it will start with self-education. I will read about degrowth, sustainability, regeneration, and all of its criticism too.

During my Kinaxis internship, I witnessed firsthand the impact of optimizing supply chain operations, not only in terms of cost savings but also in reducing environmental footprints. It started a branch of exciting thought that burns brightly today. At PointClickCare, I gained insights into the healthcare industry and the need for sustainable solutions that prioritize both patient well-being and responsible resource management.

Moving forward, I am eager to explore opportunities that align with my values and allow me to drive meaningful change. In addition to hosting monthly open-forum discussions via the IDC, I will apply sustainability philosophies in each decision-making moment. This will involve working with organizations that prioritize sustainability, developing sustainable technologies, and even pursuing entrepreneurial ventures that address pressing environmental and social issues.

What sustainability projects have you been engaged in?

As the incoming co-president of the IDC, I have collaborated with like-minded individuals to explore alternative economic models that prioritize ecological sustainability and social well-being. We aim to challenge the conventional growth-focused paradigm and promote sustainable and equitable alternatives. We have organized protests on campus, collaborated with sustainable businesses, and reached over 300 students with our ideas through workshops, open discussions, and awareness campaigns.

As the President of the London Chess Club, I have implemented various environmentally friendly actions to reduce our ecological footprint. These include implementing electronic payments and communications and promoting sustainable practices among our members, such as donating used chess sets and providing refreshments in eco-friendly reusable cups. By integrating sustainability into the fabric of the LCC, I aim to inspire a more sustainable community.

I continuously seek opportunities to engage in sustainability initiatives. Whether it's participating in community clean-up events, volunteering with local organizations, or advocating for sustainable philosophies in my networks, I make a positive impact. I firmly believe that individual actions, when multiplied, create significant change. I also believe that everyone must do their best, even if they know it to be insufficient - it is the only way to maintain our collective sanity.

Please list any sustainability-related interests you want to explore during the certificate.
