Hi, I’m Aarushi, a current HBA1 student! I’m super interested in consulting and hope to one day engage in sustainability related projects at my consulting job.

What is your personal definition of sustainability?

Sustainability encompasses many ideas - social, environmental and economic. To me, sustainability refers to the ability to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Environmental sustainability involves conserving and protecting natural resources, minimizing pollution and waste, and preserving ecosystems for the long-term health of the planet. Social sustainability focuses on promoting equity, justice, and well-being for all people, ensuring that communities are inclusive, resilient, and able to thrive. Economic sustainability involves fostering economic systems that are resilient.

What role do you see sustainability playing in your professional career?

Without a doubt, sustainability needs to be prioritized in every way going forward to ensure the health of our planet isn’t compromised. I’m going into a career in consulting; and I am certain that with every client project I’m staffed on - I will need to consider the environment as a stakeholder. More and more companies are redeeming economic benefits from being sustainable, so every single recommendation I present will without a doubt need to be questioned on sustainability.

What sustainability projects have you been engaged in?

Sustainability projects I’ve been engaged in have largely been through school clubs and organizations, whether that be different drives, fundraisers, or campaigns to raise awareness. I hope to take part in this certificate program to further broaden my knowledge.

Please list any sustainability-related interests you want to explore during the certificate.
