HBA Sustainability Certificate
Empowering the next generation of sustainable leaders
With a passion for generating social change, it is my long-term goal to integrate sustainability within the intersection between healthcare and business. I am a self-starter that aims to seek challenges that allow me to contribute to the betterment of the community and planet. In the next five years, I hope to work in an inclusive healthcare industry that prioritizes health care accessibility and environmental sustainability. I love traveling and value new experiences that allow me to explore innovative ideas and learn through action.
What is your personal definition of sustainability?
To me, sustainability embodies our approach towards establishing practices that preserve the planet and community for long-term growth and circularity. This means not taking more than we need and being cognizant of how our actions are impacting the world on a social and environmental level. Sustainability reflects the potential and opportunity that lies within establishing a greener future. A future where renewable resources and regenerative processes can change the current state of our planet.
What role do you see sustainability playing in your professional career?
Prioritizing sustainability is not only a value I follow but a holistic lifestyle that is characteristic of the initiatives I seek. In my professional career, I hope to pursue positions that match my values for sustainable development within the community, economy, and environment. I strongly believe that sustainability is a prevalent challenge and solutions that preserve the world we live in should be considered despite costs. It is my hope to pair consulting with sustainability to help businesses recognize the value sustainability can have in supporting long-term growth and increasing revenue. Large corporations have the greatest opportunity to become industry leaders and inspire other companies to establish similar sustainable practices. Particularly, I am interested in supporting the development of an environmentally sustainable health system, one that increases accessibility while minimizing negative impacts on the planet. I hope to bridge the divide between healthcare, business, and sustainability through promoting innovative models of care that cater to sustainable procurement.
What sustainability projects have you been engaged in?
I am heavily involved in projects that have established sustainable practices within the beauty and e-commerce industry. As the past Sustainability Intern at Three Ships Beauty, I helped the brand build their sustainability portfolio, launch their first sustainability impact report, and establish a 3-year action plan. The sustainability report is a high-level summary of the brand’s sustainability initiatives including social causes, environmental initiatives, and ethical sourcing practices. Furthermore, I led projects that have successfully integrated sustainability into multiple steps of their value chain, highlighting sustainability as a core value within their operations. To contribute to a circular economy, I helped lead Three Ship’s membership with Pact Collective; an organization that collects hard to recycle beauty packaging. Upon recognizing that sustainable formulation was a growing concern for their stakeholders, I developed supply chain traceability maps for all product page to demonstrate transparency. To continue exploring my passion for sustainability, I joined Alleyoop, a sustainable makeup brand, as a Sustainability Consultant. My primary project focuses on developing a long-term plan for their B-Corporation certification. Through analyzing areas of opportunity, I am in the process of creating a Sustainability Report that highlights current operations and implementing a plan for tracking their carbon footprint.
