I believe sustainability stem from the vision for long-term development and prosperity. The social, economic, and environmental factors are collaborating with each other to archive the goal of sustainability. Therefore, we should strive for an eco-friendly environment that has minimum waste and efficient energy utilization, we should also think of the social aspect to make people live with peace and justice while their rights are firmly protected. Lastly, sustainable economy can only be maintained with the concerns for environment and social aspects, and a healthy economic growth is also the fuel to future development.
What role do you see sustainability playing in your professional career?
I wish to work directly in this field to give companies and government viable suggestions and solutions ,so that they can lead a healthy growth and become active players of sustainability in their industry. I believe my professional career cannot be successful without inputs in the field of sustainability. I believe I need to delve more into this field to make decisions that is visionary and can lead to long-term impacts, I also want my decisions to be beneficial not only to the company I’m working for, but also to the ecosystem and different social groups who need attention. My expectation to my professional career is about upholding people so that they can live a convenient life that is peaceful, safe and has potential to pursue their dreams. I also want to make investment in this field to support green and ethical business and empower different firms to solve critical questions that may threat sustainable growth of the world.
What sustainability projects have you been engaged in?
I used to work for a sewage treatment project in Barbados. In that project, we handled the critical issue of household sewage treatment in Barbados and helped the government amended their policy on the inlet sewage. This project helped the local government archive their goal of effective water reuse and amore environmental-friendly approach to deal with inlet sewage. I also volunteered at a local hospital’s PTSD care program, I learnt about the importance of caring mental health in the society and the right way to treat people who has mental difficulties. This experience helped me understood that inclusion and social responsibility are really important factors to build a sustainable world as everyone has the equal opportunity to live a meaningful life, and a responsible government should take their rights into consideration as well.
