HBA Sustainability Certificate
Empowering the next generation of sustainable leaders
Bio
My most distinguishing characteristic is the diversity of my experiences. Although some would consider it ironic, attending one of Canada's top business schools has allowed me to hone my passion for international development. I am an empathetic idealist; an open-minded traveller trying to enrich my understanding of the challenges faced by various diverse populations throughout the world. Business school has made me more creative, results-oriented, self-reliant, and driven to succeed. Through my interactions with peers and strangers alike, I have nurtured a genuine sense of compassion and believe that I have a moral obligation to help those that are less fortunate. I aspire to succeed; I define success as the ability to materially impact the lives of other people and to make the world a better place. As such, I support the idea that each individual should have the right to enjoy a feeling of dignity and self-respect - the kind that comes from one's ability to be self-reliant.

Personal Definition of Sustainability
To me, sustainability means the long term maintenance of responsibility, whether environmental, social, and economic. I believe that every human being has a set of responsibilities to leave the world better than we have all entered it. The area of social enterprise intrigues me and seeking sustainable solutions to poverty driven problems is what I am personally interested in. I strongly believe with the pursuit of the triple bottom line and the ability to co-create value, our world will be able to be a much more co-dependent place and one in which we will be able to achieve a sense of balance.
Sustainability-in-Action
I am currently involved in a Seva Canada Token initiative with Smart Solutions and for the upcoming summer I am hoping to be involved in a fellowship program with the Aga Khan Foundation of Canada.
The Seva Canada initiative involves addressing an issue that Seva is facing namely, finding avenues that allow skilled, interested and motivated individuals to participate in their programs and make them better without becoming a drain on staff resources. This project that I am involved is allowing me to first hand understand the problems that organizations face in linking volunteers to specific causes and allowing for their initiatives to be sustainable. From speaking to people in the organization I am learning the challenges that are faced in doing work in international environments.
The Aga Khan Foundation of Canada fellowship program is for the stream of microfinance and microenterprise and involves going to a host country in Asia or Africa and gaining hands on learning on the field. I am excited to be like a "sponge" and learn as much from people involved in the field of Microfinance.
