Bio
I come from a background in economics and am increasing my business knowledge through the HBA program. My previous work experience is quite diverse, ranging from journalism work at a financial news website based in Manhattan to financial analysis work at the Government of Canada. I love travelling and my most recent experience abroad in China opened my eyes to the developmental work that still needs to be done in my ancestors' home country. I may be completing a business degree, but my heart is set on serving people and working in the realm of international economic development.

Personal Definition of Sustainability
I am very passionate about economic sustainability and social enterprises. Sustainability is allowing low-income families in developing countries run their businesses in order to empower them and hold them accountable to improve their families' economic statuses. Through private sector development in developing countries, citizens are equipped with the tools and knowledge to run prosperous businesses that will benefit their communities. Citizens will be motivated to run sustainable businesses in order to improve their standards of living, leading to happier lives and paving an optimistic future for their children in years to come.

Sustainability-in-Action
I was part of Community Consulting Project (CCP), where I partners with a local London non-profit organization (NPO) that required help dealing with financial sustainability. I researched methods for non-profit organizations to obtain incorporated and charitable statuses as this NPO required legitimacy and credibility to attain financial donations.

I also organized Section Six's Coffeehouse, the largest fundraising event for our charity, Canadian Paraplegic Association Ontario (CPAO), of the year. Through corporate sponsorships and at-the-door donations, the section raised over $1,000 for the charity in less than three hours. Following the event, I forwarded the promotional materials, press releases, information regarding venue booking, among others to the CPAO liaison so that CPAO can continue with this sustainable fundraising initiative in years to come.

More than anything this summer, I wanted a job with a non-profit organization to get experience working in the industry and to learn about NPO management and the constraints that these organizations face. This summer, I will be working for the SickKids Foundation as a Development Associate for the Children's Miracle Network initiative, where I will represent the Foundation and make presentations and build relationships with the program's corporate partners.
