Business responses to sustainable energy development in urban regions: a regional-level perspective on a global transition process
The PhD project of Daniel van den Buuse focuses on the intersection of business, sustainability, and energy, and addresses international-level and regional-level responses by business in the transition process towards a more sustainable energy future. At the international level, it addresses the energy industries and the (potential) role of leading multinationals in the uptake of renewable energy technologies (RETs). Two co-authored papers on this topic have been published in academic journals to date. At the regional level, it addresses whether and how business may contribute to sustainable energy development in metropolitan regions and cities. Given the concentration of energy demand in cities and the global trend of urbanization, the role of business in providing sustainable energy solutions for these ‘sustainable cities’ is essential.
