Two executives from Scotiabank's Global Innovation & Fintech Partnerships team, Carmen Sequeira (Director) and Veronica Chapa (Senior Manager), visited Ivey Business School on Friday, January 24, 2020 to share their insights about digital transformation in the financial sector. Carmen Sequeira addressed an audience of 70 MBA students taking the course Strategic Innovation in the Age of Decentralization and answered their many questions about the unbundling of financial services and how banks can leverage technology to unlock new value in collaboration with fintech startups. She discussed a range of issues including the role played by VC firms in the fintech ecosystem, the importance of mutual learning in relationships between established and new players, and the underpinnings of technology deployment in fragmented regulatory landscapes (e.g. cloud, open APIs, distributed ledgers, machine learning algorithms). MBA students were thrilled to hear the perspective of expert insiders with tremendous international experience on the multiple facets of the fintech (r)evolution!
