Ivey’s HBA2 students returned to the classroom on a celebratory note, with a combined Welcome Back event and awards ceremony on September 6 to recognize their achievements in HBA1.
At the event, they were welcomed by HBA Faculty Director Matt Sooy, HBA program staff, and Ivey Dean Julian Birkinshaw, MBA ’91, PhD ’95, who highlighted what an exciting year is ahead for them as they prepare for their future careers. Citing that nearly 30 per cent of the 1,077 students have already landed a full-time job for after they graduate, Birkinshaw urged those still in job-seeking mode not to panic because the program has set them up for success. Noting that he graduated from the MBA program during a recession when jobs were scarce, he said he still found his way because the Ivey degree stands out.
“You have all the skills. You are very well-trained and you have gone through a bunch of educational experiences that, frankly, make you better-positioned for the sorts of jobs that you want,” he said. “Always remind yourselves that you are in a good position, whether it’s a good job market or a bad job market. It’s a competitive job market and you are well-placed for that.”
