Ivey’s HBA2 students were welcomed back in a big way with a celebration of their achievements during their HBA1 year.
The HBA2 Welcome Back event on September 8 included an awards ceremony recognizing students and faculty. It was also a chance to meet HBA Program staff and learn about the support that will be available to them throughout the year from Ivey Career Management.
During the session, the students were welcomed by Lyn Purdy, Associate Dean of Programs; Nadine de Gannes, HBA ’09, HBA Program Faculty Director; and HBA Association President, Prabh Malhi.
Purdy cited stats on the class and shared details on how some of the students had spent their summer. Purdy said altogether there are 910 students – including 353 dual-degree students – who worked at 407 different companies over the summer from as far away as Dublin, Ireland and Beijing, China.
She told the students their HBA2 year will be an opportunity to grow even more and to expand their personal and professional networks.
“Live in the moment and enjoy it,” she said. “Don’t worry about what the hot jobs are or what others are doing. Think about what you want to do.”
Reflecting on her own time in the HBA program, de Gannes encouraged the students to set goals and go after them.
“You can show up differently this year than you did last year. Set goals for yourself and think about how you want to show up,” she said.
