Ivey celebrated its 2023 Business Leader Award recipient, Jon Love, HBA ’76, LLD ’16, founder and CEO of KingSett, in Toronto on November 8th.
More than 550 distinguished members of Canada’s business community gathered for a special dinner at the Royal York Hotel to honour Love and his many accomplishments.
"Your support this evening plays a key role in advancing Ivey’s mission of leadership education in Canada, building a stronger Canada," said Love during his address. "We all have a responsibility here. We all need to raise our voice on issues that are meaningful to us. We should not simply identify what is wrong, but we need to suggest solutions or policy options for consideration."
The Business Leader Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of business in Canada, and demonstrated leadership in both business and their communities.
Love started his career at Oxford Properties Inc., where he held progressively senior positions in the United States and Canada. He became President and CEO in 1992, taking Oxford public three years later, and in 2001, he sold the company for $4 billion.
In 2002, Love founded KingSett Capital, under the premise that the combination of the right people, stakeholders, and strategy could create sustainable, premium risk-weighted returns. KingSett has raised $15 billion of equity for its Growth, Income, Urban and Mortgage strategies and currently owns interests in a $20 billion portfolio of real estate assets and investments in Canada.
Alongside his wife, Nancy Yeomans Love, HBA ’76, LLD ’22, Love is actively involved in several community causes, notably Multiple Sclerosis and cancer research. Since graduating from Ivey in 1976, Love has also been engaged in the evolution of the School, serving as an active member of the Advisory Board for 20 years. In 2016, Love was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Western University and in 2018 was named a member of the Order of Canada.
Love joins an esteemed list of past Ivey Business Leader Award honorees demonstrating leadership in both business and their communities.
The Business Leader Award event serves as a major fundraiser for Ivey. More than $1.06 million was raised by the event to support scholarships for outstanding Ivey students. Since inception, the event has raised more than $7.3 million.
