Q&A with Jeffrey Boichuk
What is the most important thing business executives can learn from your research/area of expertise?
My research can help executives understand how they can leverage data accurately, collaboratively, and reproducibly for strategic decision-making. Additionally, it provides answers for building communities and optimizing sales through online channels.
Where did you grow up and what was it like there?
I'm from Burlington, Ontario. When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time playing outside with friends. We'd be in the complex I grew up in or the forests nearby until the streetlights came on. We didn't have cell phones back then. So, if we weren’t outside the parents always knew where we were by the pile of bikes in front of a house. Those were simpler times. The summers felt really long, and it was exciting to see the Raptors as a new team and the Blue Jays winning championships.
Who have been your strongest influences in life?
My parents and grandparents have been my greatest source of inspiration and resilience. They have provided unwavering love, guidance, and support. My siblings and I are incredibly fortunate.
What led you to your career?
Professor Bulent Menguc, my business-to-business marketing professor at Brock University, greatly influenced my career path. His mentorship introduced me to academia and significantly shaped my professional aspirations. He stands as a beacon of selflessness and true scholarship.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I enjoy running, practicing yoga, spending quality time with family, travelling, and investing.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
It might come as a surprise that I officiated a wedding for two former students last year in Turin, Italy. I never imagined that being a professor would lead to such meaningful experiences.
What is the most played song on your playlist as of now?
Between You and Me by Roman Alexander and Ashley Cooke.
What book would you recommend to others?
On the personal side, I would recommend The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. For business, Principles by Ray Dalio provides invaluable insights that I infuse into the classroom regularly.
