Whether it was initiatives to address social issues, new programs, research recognition, or gifts to expand Ivey’s Centres and Institutes, 2021 was a year for growth and transition. Here’s a look back at the events that defined the last 12 months.

January

Launch of new masters program
The Master of Management in Analytics while-you-work program teaches analytics professionals to apply data to solve business challenges.

February

Inaugural MBA Indigenous scholarship recipient
Alanna La Rose was recognized for her work on the development of an Indigenous Peoples Centre prior to coming to Ivey.

Lessons on addressing systemic racism
Ivey's Leadership Institute featured a virtual presentation from Wes Hall, founder of the BlackNorth Initiative, for the Character and Candour Conference for HBA students.

Students gain insights from world-renowned climate change leader
The Centre for Building Sustainable Value hosted Inuit activist Sheila Watt-Cloutier at the launch of the Worldchangers Conference for HBA Sustainability Certificate students.

$1.75-million investment in public policy and diversity
A generous gift from Power Corporation of Canada, Canada Life, and IGM Financial will help Ivey to advance public policy and accelerate diversity in leadership.

Ivey faculty recognized for research
Nine Ivey professors are among the world’s top two per cent most widely cited researchers
according to a list from Stanford University.

Exclusive executive education partnership
Ivey is the first and only Canadian partner with ExecOnline, an online provider of executive education that works exclusively with top-tier business schools.

Tima Bansal awarded top Western research prize
The Hellmuth Prize recognizes Bansal’s impressive body of research on sustainability and leadership in establishing the field of business sustainability.

$5.5-million gift to bring entrepreneurship campus-wide
Thanks to the Pierre L. Morrissette Family Foundation, the Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship will create a single ecosystem, leadership structure, and brand across Western University.

Lauren Cipriano named Canada Research Chair
The prestigious Canada Research Chair program provides funding to support Cipriano’s studies on how to allocate resources efficiently and equitably in Canadian health care.

Ivey’s first Reaching Out MBA fellows
Courtney Young and Baowen Zhang each received a $20,000-scholarship and access to exclusive leadership programming to develop LGBTQ+ and ally leaders.

Creating an inclusive learning environment
Ivey is using the audio tool NameCoach to ensure correct name pronunciation in the classroom.

August

Supporting a diverse student community
Through the launch of 17 new awards, Ivey aims to increase access to programs for equity-deserving students.

Steve Foerster highlights finance pioneers
Foerster’s book, In Pursuit of the Perfect Portfolio, examines the strategies and approaches of 10 prominent finance luminaries.

Ivey welcomes 11 new faculty members
Members of Ivey’s largest faculty cohort since 2015-2016 share their personal interests and highlights of their research.

Diane-Laure Arjaliès explores pandemic experiences
In their new book, Breaking Boundaries, Arjaliès and colleagues from around the world document the many ways in which humanity has been confronted with the COVID-19 pandemic.

HBA1 curriculum incorporates Indigenous knowledge
The students are taking a new on-demand educational program called The Path™ that aims to increase their understanding of Indigenous cultures and the legacies of settler colonialism in Canada.

Celebrating 30 years of the Ivey Business Leader Award
Award recipients, volunteers, and scholarship recipients share their reflections on leadership.

Supporting women in asset management
A new course and summer internship program will help undergraduate students who self-identify as women to prepare for careers in asset management.
