They have taken unique paths to achieve their degrees, and now they have made it to the finish line. Today's celebration of the Class of 2020 includes showcasing graduates' stories. Here is a roundup of Western News articles on some of Ivey's newest alumni and current students.

Innovative grad finds supportive home at Western
Shirin Ahmed, MBA ’20

Shirin AhmedShirin Ahmed came to Ivey with a vision for using business to make things better. Ivey’s MBA program helped her to make that vision a reality. Along with a fellow MBA student, Amrita Singh, she created a therapist-client matching platform. She has now turned her attention to developing COVID-related health solutions for refugees.

Music/business degrees hit high notes, opens doors
Sarah Fogh, Samantha Lanooy, Dorothy Lin, Vanessa Tran, and Darren Mak, HBA ’20 (Combined HBA & Music)
Dorothy LinSarah Fogh, Samantha Lanooy, Dorothy Lin, and Vanessa Tran are the first HBA/Music dual-degree graduates. Darren Mak is close behind and will graduate in the fall. Mak likened the bonds forged to his experience performing with a high-calibre string quartet – they bring out the best in each other.

Western helps grad rise to new challenges
Elliot Kimelman, HBA ’20
Elliot KimelmanElliot Kimelman’s Ivey experience opened horizons, including viewing business through the eyes of a Dragon. During the HBA program, he was selected to appear on the long-running CBC show, Dragons’ Den, and then he pitched to the Dragons and won. Post-graduation, he’s on to a new business venture.

Pandemic pivot may build high-impact volunteering
Dawson Li, HBA ’20, and Amanda Wu, HBA & Health Sciences Dual-Degree Candidate ’21

Wu LiWhen COVID-19 hit, Dawson Li and Amanda Wu pivoted the strategy for Pledges for Change, a student-run organization they became involved with during the HBA program. They are now building a document on best practices for a digital volunteering experience.

Western helps cement grad’s family tradition
Riley Love, MBA ’20

Riley LoveBusiness runs in Riley Love’s family. He pursued an MBA after seeing the impact his family’s third-generation business had on the local community. While at Ivey, he and an MBA team earned an award for developing a business model for not-for-profit, affordable assisted living for seniors. Next up is a consulting role with Boston Consulting Group.

Stefanie Tom, HBA ’20 (Combined HBA and Arts & Humanities)

Stephanie TomPursuing a dual degree in business and English Language and Literature has given Stefanie Tom a powerful combination of skills. English taught her critical thinking and business taught her problem-solving. She has also cultivated and shared her passion for singing and composing music.
