Ivey Professor Alison Konrad has received this year’s Ivey Publishing Career Achievement Award for her contributions to the case method and efforts to increase the representation of women in cases.
The award is presented annually by Ivey Publishing to an Ivey faculty member who has helped to advance the case method around the world through the writing and distribution of cases. In recognition, Ivey Publishing will make a $500-donation to the Ivey Student Support Fund at Konrad’s request.
Along with writing Ivey cases, Konrad has facilitated Ivey Publishing case-method workshops. She has also worked with the International Leadership Association (ILA) – a global network for individuals and organizations focused on leadership development, education, research, and practice – on webinars and workshops to bring the case method to new audiences. Highlights of this work include:
- Participating as a reviewer for the Best Case Award - Women in Leadership, sponsored by Ivey Publishing, at the ILA’s 5th Women and Leadership Conference;
- Presenting an ILA webinar on addressing gender-balance gaps in the case method;
- Providing a mini workshop on case writing at an ILA Women in Leadership session; and,
- Facilitating a case-writing workshop at the ILA’s 4th Women and Leadership Conference.
Championing women in cases
Through her work with Ivey Publishing and the ILA, she looks forward to seeing more cases on women in leadership roles published and utilized in the classroom. Konrad holds the Corus Entertainment Chair in Women in Management at Ivey.
Konrad said she is honoured to receive the Career Achievement Award and has been excited to learn the pedagogy of case teaching since joining Ivey in 2003.
“As I built my case-teaching skills over time, I came to understand the value of case teaching’s student-centred approach for both exploring ideas and building student skills,” she said. “I love seeing our students grow and develop over time as they contribute to hundreds of case discussions. Whenever I’ve introduced my Ivey students to executives, they always say the students are impressive.”
Past recipients of the Ivey Publishing Career Achievement Award include Paul Beamish and Mary Crossan. Ivey Publishing also recently announced the recipients of the 2019-2020 Best Seller Awards and six of the 20 winners are Ivey faculty.
