Experts in teaching and learning from around the world discussed the future of higher education at the Times Higher Education (THE) 2019 Teaching Excellence Summit, held at Western University June 4-6.
Titled Degrees of Change: Forces shaping the teaching and learning of tomorrow, the first THE summit in Canada explored topics including:
- Providing students educational opportunities beyond their borders;
- The impact and integration of technology and artificial intelligence on higher education; and,
- The role post-secondary institutions must play in building a more inclusive society.
Ivey professors Gerard Seijts and Martha Maznevski were among the speakers and Ivey Dean Sharon Hodgson attended the event. Seijts, who is the Executive Director of the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership, led a workshop on how educators can help students to develop their leader character. Maznevski participated in a panel discussing institutions that model innovation.
David McKay, MBA ’92, President and CEO of the Royal Bank of Canada, discussed how universities should make greater use of “co-op” systems to give students both real-world job experience and an education.
Hosted by the editors of Times Higher Education, the summit focuses on best practices in university teaching.
