On March 7, male faculty, staff, and students at Ivey donned red high heels for a good cause.
The Ivey Walks for Women event served as a fundraiser for Anova, formerly Women’s Community House and Sexual Assault Centre London. The idea is that to understand the experience of another person, you have to walk in their shoes – literally.
The event was organized by the Doreen McKenzie-Sanders Women in Management (WIM) Club. MBA student executives include Aanchal Narula, Bhanu Putumbaka, Nupur Jain, and Elizabeth Philp.
“We organized this event to generate greater awareness among the Ivey community on women's issues, gender relations, and violence against women,” Narula said. “Our goal is that more people will feel comfortable talking about this difficult topic. We hope that by giving men the opportunity to briefly experience ‘the walk,’ they will be more comfortable and equipped to impact ‘the talk.’”
More than 60 participants walked in the event, and even more cheered on from the sidelines and donated to the cause.
“We're really excited to have the support of Ivey students, staff, and faculty, including Acting Dean Mark Vandenbosch,” Narula said. “We also have a large group of MBA students who have dedicated time to help out. In particular, the Doreen McKenzie-Sanders Women in Management Club would like to give a shout out to David Wood and the MBA Impact Committee for their support.”
