It was supposed to be a transition year, they said.
Despite Global Ivey Day’s move to its new date in May, there was no shortage of events, sellouts, and fun – and adventure. Ivey alumni from around the world came out in large numbers to celebrate their relationship with the School and each other.
Here’s a quick rundown of the worldwide celebrations that took place during Ivey’s 8th annual Global Ivey Day on May 4, 2017:
Celebrating GID, Ivey style:
- Ivey alumni experienced an epic workout at two Equinox locations in Toronto. The first one on Bay Street sold out, so organizers held a second event in Yorkville. Then alumni reconnected (and recovered) in the Equinox Café.
- The Toronto Celebration was held at Spice Route in the heart of the King West Entertainment District.
- Amidst the Prohibition-era décor and a secret library section all their own, the Bay Area Chapter celebrated at Bourbon & Branch, a popular speakeasy in San Francisco. FYI: the password was “Ivey.”

Other amazing turnouts were experienced in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Vancouver alumni enjoyed the spring weather with golf lessons, Ottawa alumni tested their aim with axe throwing (what?), and Winnipeg alumni toured a brewery.
Making its debut:
Global Ivey Day and the Ivey Idea Forum combined for an amazing debut in Calgary! The Idea Forum was the J.J. Wettlaufer Lecture in Leadership, featuring Professor Gerard Seijts, Executive Director of the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership and co-author of the book, Developing Leadership Character. Seijts and a guest panel held an interactive discussion on findings in the book that illustrate how different character dimensions can be developed, strengthened, and applied in a business setting.
Other events were held in the Yukon, Switzerland, and Panama.
