MEDIA ADVISORY Today, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced a year-long import ban on meat, fish, milk, milk products, and fruits and vegetables from Canada, the United States, and Europe.

In particular, the Canadian pork industry could be the hardest hit sector from these trade actions and sanctions. According to Statistics Canada pork products are Canada’s most significant agricultural export to Russia accounting for almost $500 million in sales in 2012.

David Sparling, Director of Agri-food@Ivey, and one of Canada’s leading agricultural business experts, is available to discuss the impact these sanctions could have on the country’s agricultural sector.

Members of the media interested in speaking with David Sparling can contact Ivan Langrish, Ivey’s Senior Manager, Media Strategy, at ilangrish@ivey.ca or 416-203-0664 to arrange an interview time.
