In a feature for the London Free Press, HBA ’16 student Mikayla Johnson reflected on her rigorous experience in Ivey’s HBA elective course, Leadership Under Fire, developed and co-taught by Professor Gerard Seijts. The four-day intensive course mimics military training and takes place at the Canadian Forces Base Meaford.
Johnson recounted the physical and emotional toll the course took on her and the stress of being almost pushed to her breaking point, not only in a group setting, but with a lot of different personalities she didn’t know well.
“You learn about yourself in challenging situations,” said Seijts, Executive Director, Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership. “Hardly ever do we see people in situations like this. Classrooms are a relatively low-risk environment, but these people experience actual leadership. They take on multiple roles of leadership.”
