Organizations can benefit from implementing a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which is a tool that measures the social and environmental impact of a product, service, or output.
But the complex process of running an LCA can also appear intimidating to organizations.
Céline Zollinger, an Ivey MSc student, wrote an article for the Network for Business Sustainability, outlining the benefits of LCAs.
Likening them to maps, Zollinger says LCAs can help organizations to understand their processes and chart new paths.
“Different organizations, in very different industries, use LCAs to integrate sustainability into their decision-making processes,” she says. “Many examples show that LCAs support continuous improvement and sustainable development of products, services, and even policies.”
