In an op-ed for Canadian Business, Assistant Professor Mike Moffatt commended the Liberals for their Canada Child Benefit (CCB) policy proposal.
The CCB, a program aimed at ending child poverty, will now exclude high-income families, allowing an increase in benefits for low- and medium-income families.
“The true value of the CCB is not so much in the additional money as it is in its design, which targets the benefits to those who need it most while simplifying a tax code that has grown out of control,” said Moffatt. “The Canada Child Benefit is, in essence, a guaranteed annual income for children, to help ensure that no kids in Canada go to bed hungry, no one has to go to school in tattered clothes and no child is denied a chance to participate in sports due to a lack of funds.”
