In an account of his previous days as deputy minister for Environment Canada, Professor Paul Boothe acknowledged both sides of the story concerning Alberta’s announcement of its greenhouse gas plan.
“The change in policy direction in Alberta is long overdue, critical to our national efforts and welcome news for everyone concerned about climate change,” said Boothe in his op-ed for Maclean’s. “Premier Rachel Notley and her government deserve our thanks and congratulations.”
While applauding the Albertan government for taking the first step in the fight against climate change, Boothe also recognized some of the worrisome implications of the plan concerning Canada’s 2030 emissions target, the growth of carbon pricing and oil sands emissions.
