Why did you decide to do an MBA?
After several years working in finance roles like FP&A, controllership and pricing, and obtaining my chartered accountancy degree, I wanted to expand my knowledge and skillset. I felt an MBA would help me develop a more well-rounded business acumen and a broader perspective. This would allow me to provide more strategic insights and be a stronger partner to the various parts of the business.
What is the most significant thing you're learned at Ivey?
The most significant thing I learned at Ivey was how interconnected the different areas of an organization are through their case-based curriculum. We would examine the same issues and industries from various lenses, such as finance, sustainability, strategy and accounting. This taught me how each part interacts and influences the others when navigating challenges. Studying cases from multiple perspectives really broadened my understanding of how to analyze problems. I learned to consider all relevant factors and stakeholders rather than just looking at things from my individual background. This holistic and well-rounded approach to business issues has helped me immensely.
What's been the most surprising aspect of the Ivey MBA journey to date?
The most surprising aspect of my Ivey MBA journey so far has been the strong sense of community and connection among the entire Ivey network. I was struck by just how well supported and interconnected all of the alumni, students and faculty are. I also found the pervasive culture of giving back through mentorship, networking and other opportunities to be truly immense.
