I have a financial services background in business development and wealth management. For the four years prior to my MBA, I served as a key internal liaison for financial advisors across Ontario, providing support through investment analytics, proposal structuring, and market insights to help drive product sales and support existing clients.
I was initially drawn to international MBA schools so I could experience a different country, culture, and educational experience. However, I quickly realized that MBA programs help students recruit for local jobs post-graduation, and I knew I wanted to stay in Toronto long-term. When narrowing in on the top Canadian MBA programs, I felt Ivey was essential to help me achieve my career goals because of the program's unique learning experience, network-building opportunities, and reputation with leading employers. Ivey's Case-Method Learning allows for inter-disciplinary learning in an intimate environment, which I think best prepares students for making future business decisions. In addition, an Ivey MBA provides students with an extensive network of like-minded leaders from various backgrounds.
After reaching out to an Ivey recruiter for some more information, it was the exceptional level of service and commitment that sealed the deal for me. Ivey goes above and beyond - even when you’re in the initial stages of looking into MBA schools. The recruiter who managed my application was rooting for me from the very beginning, and even sent me a good luck email the morning I wrote my GMAT. In addition, the Ivey alumni I connected with thereafter were all very receptive to discussing their amazing experiences, and helped guide me through the application process and interview. These specific examples solidified how powerful the Ivey network was and assured me that I would be able to leverage it well after graduation.
One surprising outcome of the new virtual environment has been a significant amount of human interaction and connection that can be made. Not only with professors and classmates in between classes but also with alumni and network connections. This unprecedented situation has allowed our class to connect with hard-to-reach colleagues who are most often at work and unavailable to chat.
As for the online experience, our professors have been able to great creative with their teachings and regularly partner students off to complete projects in separate breakout rooms or to share various learnings. This has allowed our class ample time to get to know one another.
