Why did you decide to do an MBA?
Having worked in the oil and consumer-packaged goods industry for the past 4 years with experience in both e-commerce and traditional retail channels have fueled my creativity and passion for innovation. However, my professional knowledge has started to be specialized to my function and industry. I wanted a way to expose myself to varied industry problems and learn how to solve these from different angles. Thus, I decided to pursue an MBA to provide myself with the essential upskilling to hone my business acumen while allowing myself to build a network as I move into a new country.
What is the most significant thing you've learned at Ivey?
We've studied many cases in Ivey that tackled ethical behaviors whether it be in accounting or in negotiations class and my key takeaway is to never compromise on your own principles. You always have a choice to say no when the task being presented to you conflicts with your own morals. Saying yes once to go against your morals might end up being a slippery slope until you say yes to bigger things that ends up in fraudulent claims.
What's been the most surprising aspect of the Ivey MBA journey to date?
How one year is flying by so fast! Between attending classes, reading cases, getting to know the amazing people in the batch, recruiting, and doing extra curricular activities, an MBA student's number one constraint is time!
Describe the role you play professionally:
Prior to Ivey, I was a key accounts supply chain manager for a beauty company. This means that I am the client's key contact when in to comes to how my company services them. I work closely with the client to think of solutions on how we can deliver the right mix of products to the right channels, and at the right time. Through collaboration with the client and our internal sales team, we make sure that our products are always available on shelf while minimizing any slow moving inventory that the client incurs.
What books are on your bedside table AND/OR what podcast are you listing to right now?
I am in the process of re-reading Shoe Dog by Phil Knight. I love how Phil tells the story of transforming his crazy idea into one of the world's most well known company.
Born a crime by Trevor Noah is also a favorite of mine! His story telling gives you a good mix of humor, life lessons, and history.
How do you manage stress (i.e. sports, exercise, meditation etc.)?
I make sure I get to slow down and focus on my breathing through guided meditation. I have the headspace app and this keeps me accountable to be consistent with my practice!
