Rachel Gladwish

Introduce yourself!

I grew up in Sarnia, Ontario, and decided to pursue business as it felt like a perfect balance of my creative and analytical sides. Since finishing HBA in 2018, I lived in Toronto where I worked in retail and technology - in both worlds motivated by driving tangible growth and building successful relationships.

Why did you decide to return to Ivey to do your MBA?

An MBA allows me to expand my career and achieve new levels of success. This school has had an immense impact on my life so far - I had an incredible HBA experience so it was only natural to consider coming home for my MBA. I was also intrigued by the international opportunities, and the ability to complete the program in only 8 months as a Direct.

What is the most significant or surprising difference you've experienced in your MBA journey from your HBA journey?

HBA to MBA feels oddly the same yet entirely different. As directs we are already familiar with the Ivey building and the case-method of classes, but are now surrounded by a group of new classmates with a wide array of backgrounds. Class discussions are enriched by real-world experience, contributing to even greater learning.

Describe the role you played professionally before joining Ivey for your MBA:

Following my HBA, I joined Hudson Bay's Merchant Development Program, and then became a Vendor Analyst in the Toy Division where I managed a portfolio of brands for all stores and E-commerce. During the pandemic, I pivoted into the tech world to learn the art of sales and relationship management. In my role as Account Executive, I led net new software sales in Canada.

What are your career aspirations post-MBA?

I am still determining what my path will look like post-MBA, but am enjoying exploring new topics and strengths along the way.

What is your biggest professional accomplishment?

I am proud of the sales growth I have driven, most recently acquiring notable logo accounts in Canada and exceeding 100% of my quota in my first year as an Account Executive.

What books are on your bedside table?

I always have a couple books in my stack depending on the mood I am in - right now it is "Meet Me at the Lake" for a fun summer read, and "The Mountain is You" for personal growth.

How do you manage stress?

I manage stress by spending time with friends, going for walks, taking a workout class, watching a movie or baking a treat - really anything to engage myself in a completely unrelated activity!

Additional info:

I am currently the MBA Direct Social Representative, and am looking forward to planning great events this year, as well as playing in an intramural volleyball team.

I also love to travel, and am very excited for our Costa Rica study trip in December and going on exchange in Barcelona this spring!
