On July 19, the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership will host its annual Ivey MBA Leadership Day – a day dedicated to the development of our students as leaders. The MBA class will have the opportunity to have a first-hand look at the development of good leadership and leader character from some of Canada’s most respected practitioners.
The day will begin with a panel of leaders representing a broad range of perspectives. The panel session will be led by the Institute's Associate Director and co-author of the upcoming book Character: Leading Our Way to a Better World. The panel discussion focuses on the learning that happens to good leaders throughout their lives – the experiences and influences that enable leaders to know what to do, how to act and how to lead during tumultuous and trying times. Three proven leaders will participate in the panel:

Laurence Mussio
CEO, SIERC Canada and Chair, The Long Run Initiative
Jeannine Pereira HBA '95

Keynote Address: Jon Hantho in conversation with Erika Cheung
Jon Hantho, MBA '89, President and CEO of CBI Health Group will sit down for a fireside chat with Erika Cheung. Erika was one of the key whistleblowers that reported Theranos – a Silicon Valley blood testing start-up founded by Elizabeth Holmes – to health regulators. Her report subsequently led to the shut down of Theranos' clinical lab, which prevented the company from providing false medical results to thousands of patients. Cheung recently spent hours on the stand testifying against Holmes’ during her criminal trial; she detailed for the court the failure rate and data manipulation she witnessed with Theranos’ key blood lab machine, as well as the threatening letters and surveillance she experienced after she left the company. Elizabeth Holmes was convicted on four counts of fraud and conspiracy, ending a lengthy trial that captivated Silicon Valley (and the world). As a recent headline said - Elizabeth Holmes guilty: Now Erika Cheung is the name we should know with the advice we should hear. I very much encourage you to read the article. Erika holds a dual degree in Linguistics and Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkley. She is the co-founder and executive director of the not for profit organization Ethics in Entrepreneurship that advocates for ethics in the tech industry.
