Profile
Peter Walcot is a veteran of the Wireless Communications Industry, and in fact joined Motorola Cellular several months before the Canadian Telco’s launched their cellular services in 1985. Since that time, Peter has had a variety of leadership roles with various organizations, including Audiovox, Nokia and ZTE Canada overseeing their Canadian sales and marketing efforts.
In 2000, Peter left the corporate world to start a company, Wireless Airtime Direct Corp, an organization that represented a partnership between the CIBC and three other independent entrepreneurs. Under the brand name Prepaid Direct, the company sold prepaid phone cards through ABM’s and OLG Lottery Terminals for a decade, until the Bank exercised its’ option to buy out the company from Peter and the other original investors.
Peter is a graduate of Western in Political Science. Most recently he has been assisting the sales and marketing efforts of Lakeshore Communications, a privately-owned company that has been in the wireless business for over 50 years. Peter has also had a key role at Western since 2019, acting as a liaison between the University and Bell Mobility - a joint venture that has seen the launch of a campus-wide 5G network, a first in Canada. Some of the projects that are now being researched at Western as a result of this initiative will have positive impacts on Canadians for many years.
Since the 80’s, Peter has hired, trained and coached literally hundreds of sales people. Seeing and being a part of their success, in terms of both their careers and personal lives has been and still is a source of great fulfillment for Peter.
