Why Ivey?
Ivey has a reputation for providing the best business education in Canada. Its unique case-based teaching method promised to push me to reach my potential.
At Ivey, I haven't memorized and regurgitated anything. I have learned how to articulate myself well, use the models and principles we learn in meaningful ways, and solve real world business problems.
Whether you need to update your resume from grade twelve or you have specific questions about how to respond to an e-mail from a potential employer, Ivey's Career Management is there for you. My desired summer job was not traditional, but with their help I landed a spot at a top company in that field.
What was one highlight of your Ivey Experience?
The highlight of my Ivey Experience has to be my time with my section. As a transfer student, it was fantastic to be immersed into the Western culture with 75 people who would become my family at Ivey. Studying together, socializing together, and just being there for one another was amazing.
What advice would you give incoming HBA students?
I would tell incoming HBA students to be themselves. Ivey gets its strength through the diversity of its students. You are at Ivey because you're extraordinary. If you want to be an investment banker, own it. If you want to start a socially responsible clothing company, you can do that too.
Given the demanding curriculum in HBA1, what support is available for students?
Ivey's classrooms are unlike anything you have ever experienced. Everyone expects more from you. Your peers are brilliant and your professors are top-rated in their field. I felt that I owed it to them to come prepared.
The first line of support is always your section mates; they are in it with you. The HBA Association's Peer Support allows you to talk about anything to trained HBA students. Western also extends a wide range of mental health support to Ivey students.
