4. Exchange to Chicoutimi, Québec.

Why did you choose Ivey’s HBA program?

I chose Ivey’s HBA program because it allowed me to combine a degree in business with a degree in Engineering. I also knew cases and class discussions better aligned with my learning style than lectures did.

Describe one highlight from your Ivey experience thus far.

During my summer internship in Toronto, I routinely went for lunch with Ivey students. I’d never lived anywhere as large as Toronto, so having friends from my section and Ivey in general made the intimidating city feel like home.

What advice do you have for incoming HBA students?

Get to know your section mates and be kind to everyone you meet at Ivey. There’s a quote I’ve tried to remember throughout my time at Ivey: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou.

How has Ivey’s Career Management set you up for success?

Ivey’s Career Management does a tremendous job of getting firms onto campus and interested in Ivey students. I’ve gotten to know Career Management extremely well this year as Co-President of the Ivey Consulting Club; I’m in constant communication with them about getting ICC events organized and ensuring Career Management resources and Ivey Consulting Club resources complement one another.

What kind of support did you find the most helpful with the intense curriculum in HBA1?

My section mates were the most supportive. The section really becomes a family; they’ve helped me with course material, interview prep and some have become my closest friends.

What has been the most challenging part of the program for you?

It has been challenging managing both an Engineering and Ivey schedule, but I’ve found it’s improved my organization and prioritization. There are also many Ivey-engineer dual degree students, so I’ve had amazing support throughout the program.

What are your plans after graduation? 

Upon graduation, I will be joining The Boston Consulting Group as an Associate in the Toronto office.
