Why Ivey?

Too much to summarize here! I chose Ivey because I wanted the opportunity to pursue a superior business education with a foundation in liberal arts. Years 1 and 2 allowed me to gain a range of post-secondary knowledge in non-business fields, broadening my perspective beyond the routine commerce curriculum. Being surrounded by a range of intelligent and experienced peers and instructors has allowed me to appreciate and take advantage of the opportunity to learn and grow on a daily basis.

What was one highlight of your Ivey Experience?

Several highlights of my Ivey Experience come courtesy of my section. I made 75 new friends on August 30th of last year, and after 8 months of classroom time, 48-hour reports, parties, socials, and case competitions, I am confident that I will be reuniting with Section 3 for many years to come.

What advice would you give incoming HBA students?

Prepare yourself for one of the most exciting and challenging years of your life, but don't second guess yourself once you get started. You worked hard to be here, and you are more than capable of adjusting to the workload. It doesn't get any easier; you just get better.

Given the demanding curriculum in HBA1, what support is available for students?

Speaking consistently in a class of 76 students can be intimidating, but I quickly learned that the classroom environment is one of the best aspects of the HBA program. The case method teaches you how to apply your knowledge in real situations, and learning how to share and justify your ideas to a group is a critical skill that has prepared me for real-life decision making.

Career Management has helped me both inside and outside of the classroom. The in-class experience helped me tackle the basics, including perfecting my resume and learning the ins-and-outs of networking.

Your HBA peers, faculty, family and friends all want you to succeed and are willing to help. The best thing you can do early on in HBA1 is reach out and talk to your friends in your section; they know what you're going through, and chances are someone is experiencing the exact same feelings as you.
