Every Ivey student is expected to comply with the Ivey Student Code of Professional Conduct and to encourage their fellow students to live up to the highest standards of the Student Code of Professional Conduct. The objective of this Code is to promote the development of responsible business leaders by adhering to the highest standards of academic integrity, conduct, and trust as a member of the Ivey Business School community. Underpinning this Code is character, and our expectation that students display good character every day as present and future leaders – inside and outside of the Ivey classroom.
Character is an indispensable component of good citizenship, good leadership and good scholarship. Character is a function of accountability, collaboration, courage, drive, humanity, humility, integrity, justice, temperance, and transcendence – all of which affect judgment and manifest in one’s behaviour. Ivey places a premium on behaviours that facilitate good judgment and is committed to character development and cultivating leaders who have strength of character, strive to make a positive difference, and contribute to the flourishing of teams, organizations, communities, and societies.
The Ivey community welcomes individuals of different ages, socio-economic backgrounds, non-discriminatory perspectives, ethnicities, genders, gender identities, gender expressions, national origins, religious and spiritual beliefs, sexual orientations, ability, and other visible and nonvisible differences. We consider our community, in-person and virtual, to be a place where all individuals, whatever their differences, are valued and will be treated with respect.
Students of the Ivey Business School community are expected:
- To represent themselves honestly in all communications, including applications, resumes, interviews, research proposals and other correspondence.
- To respect the views of others during in-class and out-of-class discussions and in all interactions.
- To use Ivey or personal computing resources appropriately and not store or transmit any offensive material on or through an Ivey computing resource.
- To foster a positive, inclusive, and safe community and learning environment for all individuals as outlined in the Ontario Human Rights Code and Western’s Non-Discrimination / Harassment policy
- To promote the physical and psychological safety of all members within the Ivey community, and to respect the health of the Ivey community by following required health guidelines.
- To conduct themselves honestly and fairly in executing their assignments, avoiding any actions which might be construed as having potential for gaining an unfair advantage. Such actions include, but may not be limited to: observing the work of others during an examination; bringing unauthorized materials into the classroom or examination room; having unauthorized communications or discussions with other students during an examination; misrepresenting the originality of one’s work; submitting work completed in a previous course for graded evaluation in another course unless agreed to in advance by the current course’s instructor.
- To respect the integrity and confidentiality of materials, data, and the real and intellectual property of others gathered during the completion of class assignments, projects, or research studies, making sure that any such materials or property are not used for academic, commercial, or personal gain without prior permission of the copyright owners or content originators. This standard includes, but is not limited to: divulging confidential information obtained from a company; using contacts made in a company to further one’s own interests at the expense of the company; removing or destroying corporate records, files, or documents; using for commercial gain any material provided by Ivey for educational purposes; distributing, or accessing any published or unpublished course-specific study materials and learning resources through any sharing platforms or files hosting services; recording or distributing videos of class sessions or screenshots; removing or destroying any information, materials, or property belonging to any other individual or the Ivey Business School.
- To respect and adhere to all policies of the university relating to student conduct1 whether that takes place in public or private groups and settings.
Students are reminded that they are responsible for observing the standards specified in this Student Code of Professional Conduct when using any means of electronic communication to send or post messages or material amongst our community; this includes all forms of social media and networking sites.
Ivey may investigate alleged breaches of this Code and may remove a student’s eligibility to receive the Gold Medal and any Ivey honors designations, or to participate in the Ivey Ring Tradition Ceremony. In addition, alleged breaches may be dealt with under another appropriate University policy1 such as the Scholastic Discipline Policy or the Code of Student Conduct and sanctions may be imposed in accordance with those policies. Such sanctions may range from a warning or reprimand to suspension or expulsion.
