Diane-Laure Arjalies, Associate Professor
Diane-Laure Arjaliès is an associate professor at the Ivey Business School. Before joining Ivey in 2015, Diane-Laure was an assistant professor at the Accounting and Management Control Department of HEC Paris. She received her PhD in business administration from ESSEC Business School in Paris and holds an MBA and a M.Sc. in organizational theory. She also has several years of experience in responsible investments at an asset management company. Utilizing qualitative methods, Diane-Laure investigates the introduction of non-financial performance measures in management control systems. She is particularly interested in the development of Responsible Investment (RI) and its impact on the financial markets. Her work in this area has won her several academic and professional prizes.
Mary Gillett, Lecturer
Mary Gillett is a Lecturer in the Managerial Accounting and Control group at the Ivey Business School and the past Faculty Director of the HBA Program. She has a BA in Business Administration from Western University and an MBA from the Ivey Business School. She earned her CA designation with Clarkson Gordon (now Ernst & Young). In 2011, Mary was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in recognition of her career achievements as well as service to the community and the profession. Among many other teaching awards, Mary was honoured in 2013 with the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching, Western's highest award for teaching.
Kun Huo, Director and Assistant Professor
Kun Huo (CPA, CA) is a Lecturer of Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School. He holds a BBA in Accounting from Wilfrid Laurier University and is working to complete his PhD in Accounting at University of Waterloo. He earned his CA designation in 2010 working full time at Grant Thornton LLP. His industry experiences include the audit of manufacturing and distribution companies.
Kun is interested in research about how accounting information and performance measurement systems affect employee’s motivation and ability to complete complex judgment and creative tasks. He uses a combination of economic and psychology-based theories to explore employee behaviours in organizational settings. Over the course of his PhD, he received a number of competitive awards such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarships and the American Accounting Association Doctoral Fellowship.
Yi Luo, Assistant Professor
Yi Luo is an Assistant Professor in Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School. She obtained her Ph.D. in social and behavioural Accounting from Queen’s University and Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from University of Toronto (St. George). Her research focuses on policy-relevant questions, such as assessing the effectiveness of audit standard setters and regulators, understanding how auditors respond to unpredicted shocks, and examining whether gender plays a role in investors’ equity investment decisions, among others.
Vaughan Radcliffe, Professor
Vaughan Radcliffe is Professor of Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School and the director of the GDip program. His PhD was completed at the University of Alberta, Canada, and he has completed extensive research in the accounting and auditing field. He is a Past President of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA), the publisher of the Financial Times ranked journal Contemporary Accounting Research, and organizer of the two leading accounting research conferences held in Canada. He previously served as Chair of the CAAA's Research Committee. He is also a winner of Ivey's school wide MBAA teaching award for excellence in MBA teaching.
Yaqi Shi, Assistant Professor
Yaqi Shi is an Assistant Professor of Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School. She earned an Honours B.E. in Accounting (China), an MBA (China) and a PhD in Accounting (Concordia University). Professor Shi previously taught at Concordia University, where she was nominated for the Distinguished Teaching Award. During her PhD study, she received many honours, including the Doctoral Fellowship of Social Sciences and Humanity Research Council (SSHRC), and the Research Fellow of American Accounting Association (AAA) Doctoral Consortium. Prior to her PhD education, she worked as an accountant for Huaneng Power International Inc. (China), a world-leading power generating company.
Matthew Sooy, Assistant Professor
Matthew Sooy is an Assistant Professor at the Ivey Business School. He received his PhD in Business Administration (Accounting concentration) from the University of Kentucky, and earned an MBA (Finance and Decision Science concentrations) from Emory University. Prior to returning to school, Matt worked for KPMG and has also worked for several start-up companies.
Matt’s recent research utilizes behavioral economic methods to investigate how dimensions of financial regulations and their enforcement influence managers’ compliance. Matt also has research investigating how hierarchy and social status influence managers’ financial decision-making
Mitchell Stein, Associate Professor
Mitchell Stein is an Associate Professor of Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School. Mitchell holds a PhD in Management from Queen's University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant who formerly practiced in taxation with Deloitte for over 10 years. He is a past Chair of the Public Interest Section of the American Accounting Association. Mitchell investigates corporate governance, transparency, regulation and impacts on society across financial accounting, taxation and government auditing. His research has appeared in leading accounting journals including Accounting, Organizations and Society; Contemporary Accounting Research; and Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal. He is a recipient of an Ivey’s school wide research merit award.
Christopher Sturby, Lecturer
Christopher Sturby is a Lecturer in the Managerial Accounting and Control group at the Ivey Business School. He has an MBA and BA in Business Administration from Western University. He earned his CA designation with KPMG and recently earned the CFA designation as well. Chris received the David G. Burgoyne Award for Outstanding Commitment to Student Development in 2008. As well, Chris has been a Seminar Leader at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario School of Accountancy since 2007.
Nadine de Gannes, Assistant Professor
Nadine de Gannes is an Assistant Professor in Managerial Accounting and Control, and Sustainability. She holds a Masters and PhD in Accounting from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and an HBA from Ivey Business School.
In taking a sociological perspective in both her research and teaching, Nadine explores the interrelationships between accounting, power, and perceptions of worth. For her doctoral research, Nadine studied executive compensation, the rise of executive pay consultants and pay benchmarking practices. Her research interests now encompass the integration of ESG metrics into executive compensation, internal control systems and organizational culture.
Yuching (Steve) Wu, Assistant Professor
Steve Wu is an Assistant Professor in Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School. He obtained his Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Steve’s research focuses in the area of management accounting, especially the design of management control systems and how these systems influence employees/managers’ decisions and behaviors. He is also interested in topics of corporate governance and executive compensation.
Jessica Kelly, Part-time Lecturer
Jessica Kelly is a Lecturer in the Managerial Accounting and Control group at the Ivey Business School. Beyond teaching, Jessica is the co-founder and COO of a fast growing agri-food production company that serves markets throughout North America. Her professional career has focused on the development and management of high value product supply chains within the agri-food industry.
Jessica holds a Masters of Science in Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Guelph and an HBA from the Ivey Business School.
