The Advisory Board is responsible for enacting the mission of the CPA Ontario Centre for Accounting and the Public Interest for Accounting Education. The Centre’s influential members bring their expertise—from academia, public practice, and industry—providing guidance and the necessary resources to facilitate the Centre’s day-to-day operations.
Kun Huo, Director and Assistant Professor
Kun Huo (CPA, CA) is a Lecturer of Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School. He holds a BBA in Accounting from Wilfrid Laurier University and is working to complete his PhD in Accounting at University of Waterloo. He earned his CA designation in 2010 working full time at Grant Thornton LLP. His industry experiences include the audit of manufacturing and distribution companies.
Kun is interested in research about how accounting information and performance measurement systems affect employee’s motivation and ability to complete complex judgment and creative tasks. He uses a combination of economic and psychology-based theories to explore employee behaviours in organizational settings. Over the course of his PhD, he received a number of competitive awards such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarships and the American Accounting Association Doctoral Fellowship.
Yi Luo
Yi Luo is an Assistant Professor in Managerial Accounting and Control at the Ivey Business School. She obtained her Ph.D. in social and behavioural Accounting from Queen’s University and Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from University of Toronto (St. George). Her research focuses on policy-relevant questions, such as assessing the effectiveness of audit standard setters and regulators, understanding how auditors respond to unpredicted shocks, and examining whether gender plays a role in investors’ equity investment decisions, among others.
Don MacDonald
Don graduated from Carleton University in 1978 with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce and qualified for his CA designation in 1980. Since 1992, Don has specialized in tax matters. He advises clients on personal and corporate tax matters, estate and compensation planning, as well as tax planning initiatives involving corporate reorganizations, acquisitions and divestitures. In addition to his professional practice, Don is a lecturer at the Richard Ivey School of Business and a facilitator at the Ontario School of Accountancy. Active in the community, Don has served on numerous charitable and not-for-profit boards. He is currently the secretary-treasurer of the Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System and a member of the Canada Revenue Agency and Tax Practitioner's Consultation Group.
Martin Galczynski
Martin Galczynski is a graduate from the Ivey Business School’s HBA program and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation by articulating with Deloitte, splitting his time in audit & assurance and financial advisory services. He also holds a Chartered Investment Manager designation. He currently works at the City of London and previously held various roles within Queen’s University. Martin has held roles in overseeing financial reporting, financial planning/budgeting, and treasury while also participating in various information technology and human resources projects.
Martin also volunteers his time with healthcare organizations through work on committees of the board. He has and continues to be active in the public sector with previous committee membership with the Council of Ontario Universities and current committee membership through the Municipal Finance Officers' Association of Ontario. He previously was a part-time lecturer at St. Lawrence College.
