Stephen Sapp has been with Ivey since completing his doctoral studies in International Finance at the Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University).
Professor Sapp has taught courses such as Corporate Finance, International Finance, Investment Management, Risk Management, Financial Markets, Family Business and Corporate Governance in the HBA, MBA, AMBA, EMBA, MFE and PhD Programs at Ivey and at various schools in North America, Europe and Asia. Professor Sapp has also taught Executive Education programs in North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The Executive Education programs have examined topics such as Corporate Finance, International Finance, Corporate Governance, Executive Compensation, Comparative Financial Systems (including Islamic Finance) and Family Business.
Professor Sapp's research interests are concentrated in international finance, risk management and corporate governance. In particular, he is interested in how the globalization of financial markets has influenced the observed behaviour and interactions between investors and firms operating in diverse financial markets. In particular, Professor Sapp has examined how changing economic conditions influence financial decisions in global debt, equity and foreign exchange markets. Extending his work, he is studying how differences in the regulatory and corporate governance structures across countries influence firms' decisions including differences in banking environments across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. This includes how and why firms raise capital in different markets with different regulatory regimes.
Professor Sapp enjoys various outdoor activities such as golf, sailing, tennis, biking and all types of skiing.
