Ian MacFarlane is founder of IMP Executive Coaching, a Montreal-based consulting firm. Ian has lived and worked on four continents in various senior leadership positions in the financial services industry and more recently, fintech. He started his career in Johannesburg, then spent a decade in Hong Kong, before moving to London and finally to the U.S. and Canada. In his role as a consultant and leadership coach, his focus is on helping individuals and teams stay ahead in the fast-paced globalized environment driven by technological disruption.
Ian began his career as an economist before migrating into asset management as a money manager and specialist in integrating technology to help people make more effective investment decisions. This involved leading large teams of multidisciplinary professionals scattered across the globe, which nurtured his interest in coaching as the most effective way of achieving peak performance.
Ian's coaching style is collaborative and supportive with a focus on strong and direct communication and a foundational belief that individuals are their own "best experts." Ian is a passionate believer in lifelong learning. He has degrees in economics, an M.A. in Psychology, is an ICF certified coach, and has completed The Ivey Academy's LIFT Advanced Coaching Certification. Ian is also certified in emotional intelligence, systemic team coaching, and is a Certified Practitioner for Motivation Factor.
